What are the basic serving rules in pickleball?

Last verified 2026-06-01

Serves must be underhand with paddle contact below the waist, diagonally cross-court, clearing the kitchen on the fly.

Both server feet stay behind the baseline at contact in standard play. The ball must land in the opponent’s service court. Serving in the kitchen or into the net without crossing are faults.
